Date: 1894, July, 17

Content Summary: He would be glad to do anything for "Henry" but immediately after the season on Satuday week Phipps is to make alterations on and round stage. If possible he wants 3rd-8th September himself for rehearsals before opening in Leeds on 10th. If week 10th -15th is any use "Henry" is welcome to the stage unless Phipps' workmen make it impossible. (Postscript possibly in Irving's hand:) Stoker might see Phipps ...

Notes: At head: no use 21/7/94. The Lyceum was let, and Irving needed rehearsal space for his autumn tour. Charles Phipps was a theatre architect. Alexander seems to be objecting to Stoker's calling Irving "Henry" to him.

Recipient: Tennyson, Hallam >>
Address: -
Date: 1894, July, 18
Document Type: Letter (3 p.)
Content Summary: Warmest regards to Hallam's mother, Lady Tennyson. Work will not allow Irving the pleasure of accepting invitation. Irresponsible newspaper man has said things that are untrue about Ellen Terry. 'Becket' has no greater admirer than she. He cannot consider doing 'Harold' at present - has arrangements up to 1897- the year after he returns from America. Will read 'Harold' again, however, when he has a suitable chance. They close 'Becket' on Friday ; he mentions this in case Hallam can come up to town that night or the next day.
