Late congratulations. He was present among ordinary first nighters the previous night and had never seen Miss Terry to so much advantage - superbly realistic acting. They were all pleased to see old Mr [Henry] Howe. Surely Miss Ward is not going to resign Queen Eleanor to Miss Rorke? Has Irving decided not to produce 'King Lear' that season? Could Irving not do one of his plays on 15th June, marked as no performance, as they can only make a decent stand (2 or 3) on Saturday. Addison [Bright?] will be returning shortly. Could he have Irving's photo of King Arthur or Faust? They found it difficult to hear him in parts of the last act of 'The Bells'. He is glad of French admiration. |

Thanks for her letter. She is one of his truest and oldest friends and he wishes her husband was still there. He hopes she will come to see that beauty changes as he progresses, but he longs to break away into the green fields. |
