Content Summary: As an Englishman and a father he writes to congratulate Irving on his knighthood. He has considered that an evening at the Lyceum should be an important part of his son's education. The boy and former school friends are coming to 'Louis XI'. Louis was a school set subject the previous December and the headmaster told the boys to be sure to see the play. Irving is praised for placing a noble and elevating ideal before parents and children. He does not give an address to avoid being thought to be cadging.
