He cannot attend meeting about formation of new stock company but supports enterprise. Some such method of acting training is necessary and any country without state help should have similar scheme. He praises work of the Comédie Française. He writes of training actors in historic traditions and the value of style. He is often asked at home how traditions can be preserved. Money talks. He proposes a state theatre in a large centre where standards are upheld and students learn. Stock companies provided multiple experience in his youth, while long runs give no chance. Theatres are increasing and important in the community and they need help to advance. |

With a photograph of the sender as Iago in 'Othello'. Irving was in America and his reply is dated 6/11/95. He had announced 'Coriolanus' rather than 'Julius Caesar'. McLeay never joined the company, but see Letter 7981. |
