Content Summary: Come round to Simmons's - Don't say he is there.

Notes: With hand delivered envelope marked "Immediate". Simmons is almost certainly the theatrical costumier B.J. Simmons & Co at 7 & 8 King St, Covent Garden. Simmons is not credited with supplying Lyceum costumes in later productions, but costumes for the 1874 'Hamlet' were hired, and this may have been the case for the 1878 revival of the production.

Notes: M'Lean had undertaken to engrave Long's portrait of Irving. Long may have been referring to his portrait of Hannah Brown, but he had possibly seen that Irving's friend was rapidly failing. She died on 21st December.
