She would like to speak to the gentleman whom they discussed the day before. Could Irving arrange an interview with Mr Lewis(?) by word of mouth. She has no objection to seeing him, but if her home would cause observation he could call at Thomas(?) Hotel, Berkeley Square, any time from 3 to 4. He should ask for Mrs Trevanion.... Irving is not to come with him. |

| Notes: |
Headed: Private. Mrs Trevanion was the Baroness's sister Susannah. Mr Lewis may perhaps be George Lewis, Irving's solicitor, to offer advice on the Baroness's proposed marriage, another possibility is Leopold Lewis who was always asking for money. |

Will Irving tell him "what's up" - he has been out of touch. He is sorry there is a difficulty about the Vanderdecken going to Birmingham. He must finish it now, but Irving need not bother to sit. He will send the Hamlet to Birmingham if Irving wishes but it would have been better at Liverpool. At Birmingham they promised to put Vanderdecken on the line - he can't send it to the Academy for that reason as it is full length and there is a rule against it. |

The engagement and marriage of Baroness Burdett-Coutts presumably upset arrangements for her paintings. Long and Irving had sailed on the Walrus with her the previous year. |

They enjoyed themselves at their father's benefit. He particularly liked 'Charles I' and wants to know when 'The Corsican Brothers' begins as their mother has promised to take them to London for the first night to which he looks forward. He and his brother send a souvenir from Dunkirk which they like. He lists his birthday presents. There is a theatre there where they go every other night to see plays in French. He lists their activities and wishes Irving was swimming with them. (Postscript:) Let them know if their ivory card reached him. |

She thanks Irving for the gracious lines he has written in her album. They are a precious souvenir as she leaves England, and she thanks him for the chances he gave her to applaud his talent. If she returns to London to revisit her friends she will include him and hopes she can again enjoy one of his delightful evenings. |
