Content Summary: His Charles I the last night made her like the play while it lasted and was a landmark of his extraordinary advance. She remembers his last Charles as exactly as this. Praises his fine, smooth elocution - fullness of his voice is a precious acquirement and she was sorry not to shake hands. His Richelieu used to want repose but will not now. She has chosen for him from a famous Paris shop an African cane which she has had mounted and would like to give him personally. Will he tell her husband when she may go to see him or when he may come to her? She has something important to her to speak of. God bless him.

Eugène Viollet le Duc published 'Dictionnaire raisonné du mobilier français ...', 1858-70 and 'Dictionnaire raisonné de l'architecture française du XIe au XVI siècle', 1854-68. The date is the date of receipt, presumably added by Rose.

He thinks the 'Mobilier Français' will be what he wants and the earlier volumes. If Rose could bring them to his office they could look at them and Irving benefit from his opinion. He has reserved the stalls and will send Rose the vouchers.

Notes: Irving obviously called at Rose's office in response to the reply to his Letter 9089, containing an invitation, and wrote a note on Rose's paper. The books were by Viollet le Duc and the catalogue of Irving's Library in 1905 lists 6 vols of the 'Mobilier', 1872-75, and also Rose's 1874 'Collection of Engraved Portraits'.
