Content Summary: If 'Queen Mary' is to be acted, he would like to know what to alter. He has begun other work, not to be interrupted. He sends Mr Serle's markings as he claimed his arrangements were always a success. He has altered the beginning of the Gate House scene to mention Wyeth as Irving wished and a few passages to please himself. If Mrs Bateman does not wish to have it performed nor does he, but he expects Irving to send instructions.

Notes: Typewritten transcript. Addresed to "Mr Irvine". Thomas J. Serle was a popular dramatist of the previous generation. There is also an exchange of letters between Tennyson and Mrs Bateman in December about the adaptation and production of 'Queen Mary'.

Content Summary: So impressed by Irving's acting the previous night that he could not express his feelings. Discusses Irving's interpretation of Macbeth in detail. His one criticism is that Macbeth was too fearful in the banquet scene. He sat back to preserve his clerical incognito so he did not see all of the action but heard the voice. Mrs Crowe's performance pleased him with minor reservations. He hopes Irving may be tempted to visit him in Gloucester.
