Content Summary: He is consumed with rage & despair, vanquished by the fates. Ruth would keep him talking of the future, and with the doors closed he was tempted to take a cab and follow but feared the consequences. He is now consoling himself at the Café del' Europe with not too deep potations. If he can he will see her before the next evening but they rehearse(?) from eleven until - thank heavens that will soon be over. If he cannot run up he will make sure the box is in the lobby. The major has sent him a few leaving lines - he seems a good fellow. Irving remarks on the effect of his sincerest thanks to Florence's mother for her treatment of the major. He cannot write more as he is being chaffed that something most wonderful in the wind must be making him write then.
