Mr St John has told her that Dr H.M. dines with Irving that day.They would have been pleased if Mr St John had gone to Glasgow when Irving was first ill, but it is better as it is. How did Trin react? She gives news of Rev. Henry White, and discusses Richard (III) and Louis again. She does not expect answers to gossiping letters. She is sending a bag of eucalyptus plant which Irving can throw away if he does not like the smell. She continues to improve. (Postscript) Sir George Stewart was in town for a day on his way to Edinburgh where he would look forward to a call from Irving. |

An incomplete letter with a note that it was addressed to J.L. Toole. It seems to be related to Letter 4992 where the Fund is called the Blantyre Fund. The last sentence might be a misreading or might possibly refer to an article in 'Bell's Life in London' newspaper. |

He does not know whether Irving sent a copy of his recent address, but must thank him for the eloquent and weighty production. They are sorry Irving could not fulfil his late engagement but can imagine the calls upon him. They enjoyed his acting in 'The Lyons Mail' but also he wishes to discuss the general position of Irving's profession and the select Drama on which Irving's heart is set. Irving's personal place at the head of the profession, combined with his feelings and ability to express them, seem to make the present epoch favourable to the achievement of his aims. He hopes they can soon meet again.
