Content Summary: They will think of Irving the next day. Mrs Brown has selected a few roses for him with a note in her hand in the box. As he acts the next week they wonder if he will hear of the Wagner concerts. She has sent him orders for 5 seats in the Albert Hall for any or all the concerts and hopes he can use them. Use her Box at the Lyceum for 'The Mail'. Mr St John has asked for it for 17th, but apart from thinking of offering it to Mr Gibson for one night it is free. Mrs Brown wants to know what Irving thinks of Wagner's music, and if he knows what Wagner thinks of him. She has not read his Notes in the '19th Century'... Their friends the Youngs were impressed with Richard III.

Content Summary: Irving's flowers (cowslips) and quotation dated 5o'c May 11th arrived that morning and she thanks him, and for all the intellectual enjoyment he has given. Her eyes are not comfortable. She refers to his telegram the previous night and enquires after his cold. (Postcript) She discusses the character of Richard III who cannot be completely bad - she will never forget him.

Notes: This is a hybrid letter started in the third person by Baroness Burdett-Coutts and turning into dictation from Hannah Brown: the pattern of later letters. She probably refers to Irving's performance in 'Richard III' which opened on 29th January 1877.
