This is a greeting to real Edinburgh - a box of sweets has just arrived. They are sure all went well on Saturday. The tour has been a triumph. She encloses a list of people which Irving said he would like to have. Mrs Hanna and her daughter write that they eagerly anticipate Hamlet again. She hopes he is now intimate friends with Louis (XI)... Fancy writing to the Douglas Hotel. (Postscript) She hopes he will find Mr & Mrs Howard well. |

Thanks for all Irving's kindness. Thanks for his telegram and that morning's letter. She hopes he still enjoys Louis (XI) and will drive with him round the Brade Hills. The Balmoral is emptier than last year and they feel it. Mr St John looks back to it as the happiest 2 months he ever spent. They are interested in the publication he has sent. She fears he may find Edinburgh cold & chilly after the warmth of the other places - Dundee is a jolly place. Irving does not answer any of her questions. She gives bad news of the death of friends, and of the Brigade. That morning there was a donation for the Fund from Heidelberg. |

What a dear satisfactory letter. She does not know why she thought Edinburgh might be cold, but hopes it will not make Irving too proud. The programme is capital. He must rest before he goes to Dublin. Last night's telegram was a joyful surprise. She has done Trin's work in her current state, imagining the colours, and not as ornamented as she would wish. She had to get help sewing the blanket. What does Irving think of the P-- case and its free pardon? They do not approve of the power of the medical profession. The Baroness sent a letter to the Telegraph but said it should not appear in conjunction with an article as she was not sure of their opinion. A formal letter under Miss Peri's direction is enclosed. Mr St John dines there to say goodbye. He is a great loss. |

She has just sent off with some grapes a little offering for Trin. John [dog] is very doating. All friends there enquire about Irving and one told her he had read in a London paper of his Edinburgh ovation on Monday night. All are glad of his triumphant march. |

They are glad he has seen Mrs Hanna, Lord Young & Mrs Blackie. Lord Young's supper is a fatigue but must be received as meant. She is glad he has time to see friends. She hopes he got Mr St John's telegram? Henry Wagner brought a Dundee Advertiser with an admirable review of Richard and of the whole production.... She hopes Irving will be able to meet them on Christmas Eve as they plan. She refers to Mr Aston, Mr St John and Trin's blanket with emerald green on it. She does not want to encroach on Irving's time. They are glad he likes Mr Edmondstone. (Postscript) She wishes they could be at 'Charles I'. |
