Content Summary: He is obliged for their letter and will undertake what is suggested. The new theatre is a spirited undertaking and he wishes it every success. Let him know in due course the date of the opening and convey his cordial interest to everyone concerned.
Published: Era 17/10/1896.
Notes: Addressed "Gentlemen". Response to a request to open the New Lyceum Theatre, Richmond, Surrey, one minute's walk from railway station. Those concerned are Charles Cartwright, Lewis Waller, Fred Horner, A.B. Tapping, & A.M. Young. A.B. Tapping, who had acted with Irving in 1870s and 80s was to be managing director. This was never built and is not the Richmond Theatre Royal and Opera House designed by Frank Matcham which opened in 1899. A note in 'The Era' on 31st October refers to Irving's repudiation of the scheme, which would have to be altered, and complaining about the use of his letter. This is probably Letter 8553 also published in 'Richmond Society'.
