He was not in London for the first night of 'Robespierre' of which his friend Victorien Sardou had spoken. He would like to see the play by an admired author but understands it is impossible to get seats. He requests 6 stalls for Wednesday 4th May but would be content with 4. |

Praise for Irving's performance. She is going to join her father in America otherwise she would ask to see it again. Hopes Irving will not think her forward if she signs herself 'one of your admirers'. |

Thanks Sir Spenser heartily for his letter which he should have answered sooner but for pressure of work. Sorry to break the association but it is a relief to Irving to get rid of the responsibility of the theatre all the year round. By his new arrangements he will play first all the time he wants and will be able to take his tours unhampered by the responsibility of the theatre on his back. He hopes Sir Spenser will come to 'Robespierre' one night. |

After the creation of the Lyceum Theatre Company. Irving agreed to play at least one hundred performances at the Lyceum annually and to tour in England and America for four months a year. Irving was not a Director of the Company on Stoker's advice. |

He was delighted to get Irving's cable. Clement Scott's telegraphic reports of the play and great actor are among the best he has done. Everyone in the USA felt sympathy during Irving's illness and joy at his recovery. He sends cordial regards to Ellen Terry - he remembers her Nance Oldfield fondly. |
