Content Summary: He cannot manage to see Irving while he is in Boston as he soon has to go to New York and Virginia. He has not yet escaped from the greatness of Irving's Robespierre. He will tell the next generation that they should have seen Irving, and continues to praise Irving and also Ellen Terry. He remarks how she takes hold of life, and is enchanted by her genius. It is not justification but admiration which prompts the note.

With postscript in the hand of Ellen Terry to Bram Stoker asking him to say she cannot go out in the evenings, and with a note from Irving accepting for 26th 15/12/99; ET regrets 17/12/99. There is another typewritten letter inviting Stoker for the same day.
