He is just home after a fortnight in Paris with John Hollingshead whom he loves because he is so wicked. He never went to the theatre but against doctors' orders wrote an article about H.B. Irving's book, for 'The World'. Needless to say he has mangled him! May they have a box for 'Coriolanus' and will they sup together afterwards? Acting is out of date in Paris and Paris Sundays are worse than London. Give Ellen Terry the enclosed - just found in an old box, and tell her to burn it. He muses about when they were all so much younger than the new lot can ever be. (Postscript:) Darbyshire - another infant - has been writing a good deal to Merivale about Irving and some of the other boys. |

He encloses his notes on Irving's Agreement and on the Articles of Association. He has framed them so that Irving may show them to his accountant or solicitor. His persistence in asking for the Articles is justified. He is always ready to help Irving if he can. Once Irving has the list of shareholders from Somerset House he would like to see it. After that they can get to know who and what are the Board. He returns the Prospectus, Agreement and Articles. He has secured the Bs for 15 June and does not intend it to be a party. They will be snugger small. |
