Irving said Mr Darbishire was staying in town. Would he look at her poor little house at Highgate(?) and tell her what arrangement could be made for some new rooms? She could not live there with the bedrooms as they are. It will be hard to return but she was fond of it, and it has no link to her other place. Mr Darbishire has adapted the Lyceum so skilfully she thought he might suggest, after the beautiful arrangements to her box, something she would like at Holly Lodge - changes which would not spoil its queerish familiar character. |

No 12 25/- sent, with Lyceum receipt stamp 21 Feb 79. To see 'Hamlet'. Neville seems to query the incorrect Theatre Royal designation of the Adelphi. |

Could he help. Will he give the enclosed £10 to Mr [William] Chippendale for his benefit remembering his long and knowledgeable professional career. In different circumstances she would have come to see Irving and his first Polonius, but the friends occupying her box are expecting an interesting evening. A Victorian actor must be grateful to be so appreciated with a Shakespearean. Secondly she asks him to get her five tickets anywhere for the unfortunate employees of Drury Lane. There is a benefit at the Agricultural Hall, but she does not know when, or the manager. She encloses £5 for this if Irving could send it to save her trouble. |

Drury Lane closed after Chatterton's failure as manager. Chippendale retired that year. |

Can Irving do anything for Lady Ely and the Grand Duke's gentleman? Her box is given both nights and Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. Tuesday would be best, but if he can arrange for either send her word so she can telegraph and in the morning send her a note she must forward to say Irving places a box at her disposal. She is sorry to trouble him but can hardly avoid it. |
