He & his wife got there the previous afternoon. It is cold but fine. He has been for a 2 hours' drive and feels a little better but cannot stand alone yet and is occasionally overcome with terrible sadness. He supposes Irving's business is big. He has been thinking of the reading Irving is giving on Christmas night - he should recite the lines about 'Tommy' and the writing master. When he is better he will be glad to read or recite for any school the Baroness is interested in as a small return for her great kindness. Florry thanks Irving for his flowers and Toole for his loving sympathy. (Postscript:) He had a beautiful letter from Bram Stoker. |

Toole's son Frank had died on 4th December. Florry was his daughter. Irving may have been reciting for the Baroness Burdett Coutts. |
