Document Type: Letter (3 p.)
Content Summary: Mr Ruskin has written about the paragraph in 'Theatre' in January reporting him to have said to Irving that his representation of Shylock was "noble, tender, and true". He probably did say this on the spur of the moment but it should not be represented as his entire opinion of the production. Ruskin would like Irving to publish the whole of his letter to him on the subject. He did not specify the place of publication. He and others greatly deplore the public moral drawn from the production and he wishes to correct the impression the single paragraph may have made.
Published: L. Irving, p.348-49.
