Thanks Irving for hospitable reception at Lyceum. Remains in his memory though as he has been unwell had to leave early and he has been unable to call. In some respects reminded him of famous supper long ago given by Charles Kean at Long's Hotel, Bond Street when Sam[uel] Rogers, the poet, was carried in on a chair. He has now a still more remarkable gathering to remember. |

There is nothing further for him to do in the "Ruskin-Laister" business. He washes his hands of such a cad as the latter gentlemen. If Mr Ruskin had anything to communicate the case would be very different. |

Sunday will do very well. He still has reservations about Vanderdecken at the R.A. but he could make a strong thing of Hamlet if he made it about the same size as Richard [III], if Irving could manage as many sittings for it. If Irving likes the notion please let him know - they have a good month as he has nearly finished his other works for the Academy. |
