Reopens letter as Lady Pollock has just given him Irving's Shakespearean relic accompanied by charming letter. He will keep letter and box carefully and leave them to his son in remembrance of Irving's sympathetic reception. Thinks of Irving's idea of a Conservatoire and a National Theatre - Shakespeare's house. Irving alone can bring it to reality.

The course is changed to Cherbourg and the French coast that night, then the Isle of Wight. Mr Bartlett understands. (Good omens) G.B. & G.W. are singing on the steam engines. The Longs join at Weymouth, others leave.
