Enclosed is a letter from old Mrs Stokes who is 82 and played Juliet in 1815 - Glynne(?) Fund - they ought to have a half hour meeting the next week (he will be in town all week and there are deserving cases). They will meet at the Garrick the next Sunday. Give Stoker the letter to keep. Sandringham the last Thursday was a great success and went well. About 200 in an enthusiastic audience and the Prince and Princess [of Wales] charming. Toole had told Mrs Keeley Irving would send a box if she wrote. She is fond of Irving. The Dean of Windsor at Sandringham said Toole reminded him of Liston - perhaps not quite so ugly. (Postscript:) All let that night and next there - then Tunbridge Wells & St Leonards. He hopes he won't meet Master Jones on the Pier at Hastings. |

This is Toole's first command performance at Sandringham on 19th January 1882. The second was on 8th January 1884 when Irving was in America, and the third on 8th January 1886. |
