Tickets for the first night of 'Richelieu' on 27th September. Irving had presumably called on Rose and wrote a note on his paper. The Globe Theatre may have been presenting 'Fine Feathers' by H.J. Byron which opened on 26th April.. |

Yates did not go round the previous night as he thought Irving might be anxious and tired during and after the play. Yates was very pleased. The make-up is perfect and he likes the delivery in general. The satirical touches in rapidly changed voice and excellent dry facial expression and the languor in the last act are the gems of the performance. He has one or two suggesions which he will reserve until Irving is more free. Mrs Yates joins in congratulations. |

Has read the paper reviews of 'Richelieu' and sends his opinion. He had never seen it acted so was not hampered by comparisons, and saw an admirable conception of a very complex character - subtle, elaborately & powerfully executed. |
