Notes: This is probably a negotiation for the American rights in 'Charles I' for the American actor Lawrence Barrett, or possibly represent Irving's attempt to avoid negotiating with Miss Bateman, since he performed the play in London and America in 1883. He does not question Miss Bateman's right to transfer, but when writing to him from Leicester she said she would send copies of documents which establish this beyond doubt. He would like to see these if they would send them first post. They will of course on completion and payment of £500 hand him a prompt copy of the play.
