Time's up and he's starving. 27th October was to be a month to the second instalment of £250. Will Irving send it? The remaining £150 could come in another month. He asks what he thinks right; and should not ask more than [W.G.] Wills received. Nor should he take less - less too than Miss Litton paid in preparation, and she left him all American and Colonial rights. When will there be room at 'Much Ado'? |

All right -good enough - they were right to trust each other over terms. Merivale was misinformed over what Irving gave [W.G.] Wills and he doesn't want more. As to monuments of blank verse, he doen't think a prologue should weigh in the scale. He knows no more than Irving the worth of the play (£1000 or a farthing?) but was alluding to the worth of the labour. For the £100 he sells all the acting rights of the play, and is at service to alter or re-write. |
