Content Summary: Happiest returns of the day and may God preserve them both for many years. They must meet soon, best on a Sunday as Irving has many kinds of business which he lists. He gets tired out by the middle of the day and then must to get through his work at (night?) with effort. If he can look in to see Marshall that day he will - he is just going out and cannot get back until 3 or 4. He is now all right but the last week was very seedy. God bless Marshall, his dear friend.

Date: 1878, Dec., 16
Document Type: Letter (4 p.)
Content Summary: In response to Irving's letter of 11th he visited Mrs Irving on 13th. He reports on the state of her lungs which does not seem very serious. She was worse two months before. He would certainly not recommend her travelling to the South of Europe that late in the year, especially with the current weather on the Riviera. As a precaution she might go for the rest of the winter and the spring to Penzance or if that is considered too far - to Hastings under the Rock.
