Content Summary: Yesterday Geoff had a visit from the young Wardells brought by Miss Herbert with a kind message from Miss Terry. She describes the children. They saw J.L.Toole as Caleb [Plummer] on Saturday and she praises his acting. Mr Billington announced that ill health prevented him for appearing in the afterpiece, where he was replaced by Garden. She describes a suspected burglary and comments on safety issues in theatres and hotels, the 100th performance of 'Much Ado' and news from America about 'Emmett'. The next Saturday they go to 'Caste' and 'Dearer than Life'.
Published:
Notes: She addresses Irving as "My dear Gossip". The Wardells were Ellen Terry's children Edward Gordon and Edy Craig - Ellen Terry was currently married to but separated from Charles Wardell (Charles Kelly); Geoffrey was presumably Mrs Taylor's son. It is not known if Miss Herbert is Louisa Herbert, later known as Louisa Rochfort.
