Author: Zangwill, Israel
Address: 24, Oxford Road, Kilburn, N.W.
Recipient: Irving, Henry
Address: [London]
Date: 1896, Nov., 20
Document Type: Letter (1 p.)
Content Summary: He got the story from 'The Graphic' in confidence and forwards it to give an idea of the 2 chief characters although he has kept closer to history than he will in the play and it does not express the dramatic possibilities. Please also remember his 'Revolted Daughter'. Good wishes for 'Richard III'. P.S. (written up the side) The pulls of Solomon J. Solomon's illustrations are not yet ready but he hopes to send them to Irving.
Published: -
Notes: HI regrets 13/2/97. See Letter 8337. 'The Revolted Daughter' was performed in 1901, but no listed play seems to relate to 'The Turkish Marriage' story.

Recipient: Irving, Henry
Address: [London]
Date: 1896, Nov., 1
Document Type: Letter (1 p.)
Content Summary: He will be home on the night of Wednesday 11 November and still hopes Irving will come although it is his final matinee. He will try to get a proof of 'The Turkish Marriage' from 'The Graphic' and perhaps a pull of Solomon J. Solomon's illustrations. He has several dramatic ideas for Irving and is giving up chat in 'The Pall Mall Magazine' with this in mind. He is writing near Charlotte Brontë's home ...

Notes: Irving's reply seems to suggest he does not want a book but asks him to send a scenario 7/11/96. See also Letter 5443.

Ref.No: 5332
Author: Vezin, Hermann
Address: 10, Lancaster Place, Strand, W.C.
Recipient: Irving, Henry
Address: [London]
Date: 1900, July, 14
Document Type: Letter (3 p.)
Content Summary: Offers Irving a play translated from the German he would read to him, or Irving could read himself. Irving's part would be Bolingbroke the only Englishman in the cast of a serious comedy involving Louis XIV and his court.. Leading lady is beautiful widowed Marquise about 25 who finally marries Bolingbroke - patriotic Englsh view. It would be expensive to put on for scenery and costume. No reply will mean no room for it. He is glad Irving is back in good health.
Published: -
Notes: Irving says send it - read it 11/7/00. It is not clear whether Irving or Stoker was to read the play.

Address: [London]
Date: 1882, Jan., 22
Document Type: Letter (1 p.)
Content Summary: Tell Irving he, his father and mother are there and would be pleased to see him any Sunday about 3. He does not know if Irving got the letter with the message from his father but assumes he does not now want the plays printed for him. Whatever the case he asks him to come to smoke a pipe with his father. He writes to Stoker as Irving is not a ready correspondent.
Published: -
Notes: Partly not in Hallam Tennyson's hand? And BS 25/1/82. Irving "has not the pen of a ready writer".

Author: Stevens, Victor
Address: 177, Portsdown Rd, Maida Vale, W.
Recipient: Irving, Henry
Address: [London?]
Date: [1896?], [June?]
Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: He asks for a reply to his letter of 5th and approval of scene plot for the first part of 'Red Riding Hood', letting him know when contracts might be ready. Sorry for the trouble at a busy time but he wants to get on with the libretto to make progress with costume and scenery.
Published: -
Notes: Probably written after Irving's return from America in 1896. Stevens had appeared in the Lyceum pantomime in 1895/96, but Irving decided to stay in London and present 'Richard III' in December 1896 and 'Red Riding Hood' was performed at the Novelty Theatre instead.

Author: Wyndham, Charles
Address: Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly, W.
Recipient: Irving, Henry
Address: [London]
Date: [1899], July, 15
Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: He has obtained an extension from M. Rostand to let 'The Tyranny of Tears' complete its run. Rostand however needs the approval of the original purchaser of the rights - mere red tape. Will Irving write an approval addressed to Rostand and send it to Wyndham on Monday. He complains of the expense, but he must be fair to Haddon Chambers.
Published: -
Notes: Reply dated 19/7/99. Irving bought the rights to 'Cyrano' and presumably other plays. 'The Tyranny of Tears' was adapted by Haddon Chambers and performed 6/4/99 - 20/7/99.

Author: Wyndham, Charles
Address: Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly, W.
Recipient: Stoker, Bram (Abraham)
Address: Lyceum Theatre, Strand
Date: [1899], May, 18
Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: He doesn't want to disturb "poor dear" Irving but asks for two proofs of Ogilvie's version of 'Cyrano' which Irving had printed to be sent quickly for him to work on. Give Irving his kindest regards and say he is glad he is getting better. He fears they are both going down hill, but Wyndham does not want to run too quickly.
Published: -
Notes: The note of the answer 20/5/99 is illegible. Irving had sold the rights in 'Cyrano' to Wyndham but it was not performed in English until 1900.
