Content Summary: He warns Irving of a persistent maligner who writes on "the world" and almost weekly attacks Irving. He thinks it is Wilson Barrett's good friend Col. Cockerill. Terriss is doing well there with 'Roger La Honte'. Daly made a mistake first putting them at Niblos but they made money and in Boston he has been playing to 700/800 dollars every night. His long contract with the Adelphi ceases in 1891 when he is determined to join Irving again if his management offers. He is well and sends his & Jessie Millward's love to Ellen Terry. (Postscript:) 'Dead Heart' is reported Irving's biggest success. [Wilson] Barrett has poor business in New York, Wyndham poor to 'David Garrick'; the Kendals did big business.

Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: He has heard that Messrs Gatti intend putting him into the running bill at the Adelphi in London in March whether the run of the play is ending or not. This and other disagreeable acts have annoyed him. That day he reads that George Alexander is lessee of the Avenue Theatre. These two things give him the opportunity to serve under Irving in his old position. He would like to join him for two years or longer, but does not wish to leave the Adephi until sure of Irving's support. Will Irving write or cable to c/o Daly's Theatre NewYork if he is in favour? Merry Christmas.

Content Summary: Greetings and congratulations. Would Irving like him to rejoin him once more at the end of his contract? His present engagement ends about July 1897 and by the time Irving returns to England he will have a year to serve. He has many schemes but wants to know if Irving is likely to have him again? He offers three years from 1897 at his present salary if he could be advertised above the rank and file. This shows the kindly feeling he feels for Irving - let him know - it does not matter which. His love to Nell [Ellen] Terry. They are doing well there.

Content Summary: He quite casually mentioned to Mr Broadley that he thought many theatrical folk would like to show their gratitude for Morell Mackenzie's never-tiring generosity at his dinner. Broadley mentioned the idea to several, including Kendal & Wyndham who wish something to be done. Tree has just been talking to Toole & Thorne who think the same. Could Irving take up the matter so it would be a success. He does not think Mackenzie knows anything about it - but it would be a "tender thing to do" as Toole would say.

Content Summary: He returns Yates's letter. Following Irving's suggestion he is calling together all concerned at 1 o'clock the next Wednesday at the Haymarket. He hopes Irving will come. He is also writing to Yates. Those who have already agreed are Irving, Toole, Wyndham, Hare, Thorne, Kendal & Tree - He suggests Grossmith, Corney Grain, Geo. Alexander, David James, Augustus Harris & Forbes Robertson should also be asked. He thinks 5 guineas each would be a proper sum. If Irving disagrees with anything let him know. It is fitting Irving should make the presentation. He will be delighted to be Irving's guest for a little while. (Postscript:) He is telling Yates it will be private with no appeal to the whole profession.
