Content Summary: He thanks Irving. Claretie's note is satisfactory in confirming his conclusion. Mrs Gaskell's story 'The Crooked Branch' in 'Right at Last' makes a good penny reading and would surely prove a well constructed play, with suggested scenes. Kirkby's part would have to be written up, but Nathan is ready made.

Date: 1885, Nov., 10
Document Type: Letter (4 p.)
Content Summary: He will be glad to receive his MS. at the stated time, and will at once have it typeset. He intends to produce it after 'Faust' and knows it will be successful. A busy man like Burnand can understand the difficulty of looking ahead, but in the days of elaborate productions it becomes almost necessary for an "old 'un" like himself. He thinks Burnand's quiet first act is better, and will make the story plainer. He has not yet seen the 'Fortnightly'. Douglas Straight remembered 'The Isle of St Tropez' at St James's Square well and was quite enthusiastic.
