Recipient: Lytton, Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton
Address: -
Date: 1884, June, 5 [i.e.7?]
Document Type: Letter (4 p.)
Content Summary: He hopes Lord Lytton received the precious book he returned registered, and he congratulates him and the theatre manager fortunate enough to produce the play. Mr [Wilson] Barrett is a thoroughly able man, and Irving only regrets the necessity which compelled this wise course. He is sure the play will be a success. He hopes he may sometime be able to accept the kind invitation to Knebworth which is a privilege. When they act 'Twelfth Night' he hopes Lord Lytton will come. Lytton's expressed satisfaction with some of their work is a great incentive to Irving and to Miss Terry to whom he gave Lytton's welcome message.

Recipient: Stoker, Bram (Abraham)
Address: -
Date: 1884, Jan., 5 Saturday
Document Type: Letter (4 p.)
Content Summary: He has received Stoker's letter of 23rd Dec. that morning. Press Opinions will go in next week's issue Jan. 12th. By same post he sends 'Eras' & cash statements showing balances of £94.17.10 and £56.18.4, so will hold out for another fortnight. He is delighted to hear of great success in Boston - does Stoker mean by returning there for another fortnight the tour will be lengthened to the same extent? When do they return to Boston? 'Claudian' is the only production worthy of notice. Terry thought of sending Press Opinions but decided Stoker would be too busy. Terry thinks it not such a success as made out - certainly not financially. No expense is spared and advertising costs must be enormous. Did Stoker find the machine which printed his letter useful [a typewriter]? If it works it will be useful and save time. He encloses a Dublin letter. (Postscript:) He encloses Dents' account for £19.10.0, also Homewood & Robbins for £6.2.6 which he gave to Mr Abud who disowned it. Does Stoker know who gave the order - by the date they should not have to pay it? Also G. Rees' account for £2.10.0.
Published: -
Notes: 'Claudian' was by Henry Herman and W.G. Wills and produced by Wilson Barrett. Enclosed with the letter is the Homewood & Robbins account which appears to be for fire hoses and fittings. The letter itself bears a note in Stoker's hand "Told not to pay but find out who ordered it". The letters do not give the answer. Fire precautions would have been the responsibility of Mary Anderson's manager during her tenancy.

Content Summary: The Mule has been sold and he has the £10. He wishes Stoker would let him sell the Pony as also the cost of keeping him will equal half his value. This full value is £15 as his sister Mrs Lewis's coachman tells him his knees are chipped. He cannot get anyone to take him at 5/- a week - being asked 7/6 and 10/-. Stoker should make the decision in his next letter. He supposes he knows about the Celtic. He received Press opinions that should have appeared on 29th Dec. on Jan. 16th, explaining his cable. Two letters enclosed. All well. Edgar Bruce's Prince's Theatre opens on Friday.
