Date: [1904], [July], [14]
Document Type: Letter (4 p.)
Content Summary: He has been there a few days with Harry to get away from the heat. The garden party was the last straw and he understands why Toole finds London unbearable. He meant to propose the drive they spoke about for the next Tuesday. He will call in the afternoon about 3 and they might go to Hampton Court or to dinner somewhere. The following day he goes to Cornwall for a few weeks. Does Toole remember an artist Reginald Davis who says he was introduced on the jetty at Margate? His greeting to Arlton who can write to him. When he saw the Baroness last she enquired keenly and said she would call on Toole. (Postscript:) When Toole is in Margate on Wednesday he will see Harry, whose family & mother & children are at Broadstairs.

Notes: Addressed "My dear Toole" and dated in another hand, probably by Frank J. Arlton. The garden party may have been at Buckingham Palace; the Baroness was Angela Burdett-Coutts.

Content Summary: Alma Tadema did all the designs for 'Cymbeline' and 'Coriolanus' produced at the Lyceum. They are all exquisite works of highest art, imagination, poetry and learning and they must live. They are accurate lessons in archaeology in 'Cymbeline' - a period new in art - curved and ornamental wood, stone & metal work of the early Britons. No praise would be too great for his work for the stage.
Published: Standing, Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, 1905, p.92.
Notes: Standing had asked for information from Irving and Tree for his biography and he describes Irving's response as a "generous letter".
