Notes: Dictated to Baroness Burdett-Coutts. In February 1877 Irving had given a reading of 'Macbeth' in Birmingham Town Hall in aid of the building fund for the Perry Barr Institute. Irving played Claude Melnotte in 'The Lady of Lyons' at the Lyceum in April 1879, but had perhaps earlier read it for the Baroness.
