Been in Dover six weeks near to poor old John Baldwin. They are both invalids. He will be in London 18th,19th and 20th staying at Hotel Windsor, Victoria Street to meet daughter. Could Stoker get them tickets? He describes the drawing room of his lodging. He looks out at the sea and ships and finds his own future almost as inscrutable as Bram Stoker's writing. He mentions Lord Aberdeen who is yachting skilfully. His book gave Russell great pleasure. Russell met Lord Erroll in 1854 and in 1860 visited him at Slains Castle. He must often have looked out over "the Watters Mou". Greetings from "by the sad sea wave". |

He is pleased and honoured by Irving's interest in his poetic play 'Hairan' and wish to read it. However this seems useless as the Berlin first performance was followed by a police ban, and he thinks England is even stricter on this one point, and stage performance would not be permitted. He is sorry it will not be produced on Irving's "famous and elevated stage". |
