| Content Summary: |
He asks a great favour. He is turning the Savoy Theatre and Opera business into a Company. He will retain the share capital for himself and his family and direct with his wife and most promising son. £100,000 debentures have already been taken up and he asks Irving to be one of the Trustees for the Debenture Holders. It is an honorary post requiring reference to a Court in event of any failure. He thought of asking the Earl of Lathom and Carl Meyer unless Irving objects. He feels sympathy with Irving on the short occasions when they have met, and if impertinent to call himself a friend, he feels that Irving as head of the dramatic profession might show a kindness to the 'doyen' of West End managers... He proposes to keep up the character of the theatre so it will not be contaminated with trash. He is better but not mobile. His wife goes to town 2 or 3 days a week. He will drive up for the Jubilee and then goes yachting. |
