She talks of her role as S[hadow] M[other] to Irving and remembers "Good Night Mother", also the Sunday toast "I wish he were here". She refers to a paraphrase of Wordsworth, capital newspapers and a visit from Mr Critchett.

Content Summary: He has just received enclosed cheque for £53.12 from Glasgow: six weeks due £48 and £5.12 for Miss Kerr. Redfern's bill was paid on 17th September. Cross had told him of Florence's illness to which he says "He is sorry to hear of her illness and hopes she will speedily recover. He hopes this is temporary and that Cross will keep him informed". Just received on Saturday evening.

Notes: Irving was away on tour. Florence writes a copy of her reply to Cross on the blank pages. She hopes his wishes for her recovery are sincere. Cross must also have received her letter saying there is no recovery. They had a pleasant afternoon with the boys at the [Crystal?] Palace and got home at 6.30 when she received Cross's letter. Florence whom Cross addresses as "Dear old lady" had a weekly allowance of £8. Miss Kerr was the boys' governess.
