Date: 1899, June, 12
Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: Has Stoker's note. The day before he rescored the 'Robespierre' music to fill the numerous holes left by absence of horns and trombones. Tell Sir Henry and send him Mr Tabb for him to give him the score and explain where to place additions. He is ashamed of the way it is now played. He is at home every morning at 11. Alterations could be done in a few hours and would not interfere but are absolutely necessary in the FĂȘte da la Raison & Entr'actes. Mr Ball should have asked him to fill the holes at once when the orchestra was not down. Regards to Sir Henry and Stoker.

Notes: Seeming mismanagement in the new Lyceum company following the reduction of the orchestra. R.P. Tabb was the Lyceum chorus master, and Meredith Ball the conductor. See Letter 7644.

Document Type: Letter (2 p.)
Content Summary: The Royal Academy of Music Committee of Management had asked him to invite Irving to preside at the Annual Prize distribution, Friday 21st July at 3 pm in Queen's Hall. He delayed, knowing Irving had not been well, and was moving house, but must ask. The previous year the Duchess of York attended but they wanted a representative of the Arts. Only Irving had been approached. He describes the hour long programme, involving a few words. He was in the theatre on Saturday but would not bother Irving after strain of performance. Delighted if he came.

Notes: A note inside the letter indicates: 20th Glasgow, travelling 21st. Irving received an honorary doctorate from Glasgow University on 21st July and could not be present at the RAM prizegiving. He seems to have been present in 1900.
