Thanks for his letter. Winter is glad hs tribute to the genius and nobility of Irving and Ellen Terry met his sympathy and the approval of Rev. Dr Hillis - an able man. Irving's departure is a bereavement for Winter. They have been friends for 24 years, and he praises Irving's nobility and beneficial influence towards intellectual development, spiritual growth, higher aspiration, etc. His career has been one long blessing. Winter does not expect to see him again and parting has greatly depressed him. |

Typewritten and presumably a copy, perhaps only of extracts, sent to Irving. Irving in fact returned to America in 1901 and 1903. |

He is sorry to be amongst the first to trouble Irving on his return. Last year Irving promised to appear at the Royal Academy of Music prize distribution but it was subsequently postponed. Could he now do the service on the afternoon of 25th July? All concerned would be delighted, if his engagements permit. Welcome home and good wishes from all there. |

No need to say more. They may talk some day but he is not to write. Don't believe that about the body - it is the infirmity of religions. He will be glad to see him on Sunday at 8 o'clock. |
