Content Summary: They hope to be back on 29 or 30th, sailing from New York on 19th. Only 9 more performances - they travel all day & night to Philadelphia, winding up the next week in Harlem for 5 nights. In nearly seven months they have had much travel & climate besides prosperity and need a little rest. He longs to see Toole. He has had a touch of sciatica - very uncomfortable, but he does not complain as they have all had a touch of something. He has played over 200 times and made over 200 speeches considered essential, &c. He supposes it was the same when Toole was there as things don't change. He counts the hours, will soon be with Toole, and sends love & affectionate greeting.

Content Summary: He feels bereaved as he left Irving at the ship and dreads they may not meet again. He left for his island and his boat followed Irving's ship down the bay. He describes the scene and weather. Irving does not realise how much he has endeared himself to Winter and many others. He expresses affection and appreciation. Willie sends love - they talk of Irving every evening. (Postscript:) Love to Toole and remembrance to Comyns Carr and his wife. He will write to Nell [Ellen Terry]. He may go to California, but will let Irving know.
