Gratified at remembrance by Irving of him in presence of Mrs Howson. Sorry to miss Irving's visit to Dover. Just returned from their long exile. Fears Irving has no good news of Johnny [Toole?] He gave so much pleasure and was so constant a friend. Did Irving see the little note in that night's 'Westminster'? He is now an octogenarian and forty-five years married. P.S. 'Manfred' ought to be a chief work for Irving. |

| Content Summary: |
The Honourable Tom Ochiltree is at the Carlton Hotel. Could Loveday see him and talk over the Galveston affair. There is not much chance of Irving appearing as he has had to decline so many similar requests and in fact is away from London, but he is heart and soul with the cause and anxious to do everything or anything. |
