... thanks for his kind thoughts of Richard on Thursday. (Postscript:) He enjoyed and admired Irving's play which they must discuss when Irving returns. |

Half a torn letter. Tree played Richard II from 10th September 1903. Irving's play is probably 'Dante' and his return may be either from holiday in Felixstowe or Buxton or after his final American tour. |

If he remembers correctly no mention was made of Bancroft as the Abbé Latour in the 'Dead Heart'. Something should be said about his admirable perf(ormance) or he would never forgive it. |

Negative photocopy; typewritten transcript in THM/37/1/43. This must refer to Brereton's "The Lyceum and Henry Irving" published in 1903, which on p.278 mentions Bancroft's admirable acting. This suggests that Irving read the manuscript. |

If any further sum has come to the account of the Actors' Address to the King could a cheque be sent in part or complete payment as he is in need of money. Irving's personal account is also unpaid. Please forget this if it is inconvenient. |

Typewritten. An illuminated album from the theatres for Edward VII had been prepared in 1902, similar to the Jubilee Address sent to Queen Victoria. On this occasion the arrangements were left to the binder, presumably because of the new administration of the Lyceum Company. A bill for £375 had been sent on 1st January. On 3rd October £150 was paid, with the 8 guineas in Letter 8974 leaving £216.12 owing. The account was finally settled in 1905. |
