Fresh air will do Irving good. Mr Hassard told her his hospitality lasted long on Friday. Several friends come to drive quietly with her. That evening she is going to St Stephen's for a church performance of Handel's Messiah music, portions of which Mrs Brown was fond of, but she never thinks of her as there. The next day she goes to the Flower Mission and will give Irving's order. On Monday she will be among Irving's Easter offerings. She recounts the effect of Hamlet on a school teacher. She does not like the idea of the Exchange Irving mentions. The Théâtre Français might have been accepted as an Institute, but she would not like to put the English stage, which Irving represents in its higher aspect, on a par with anything else. They may discuss this. Could Irving find time to visit his old servants named Smith... |

Mr Pym sent Irving his card to use to go into St Paul's but Mr Sinclair can take all the party in together as meeting might be difficult. She asks Irving to be there at 6.15 the next day (Sunday) or they will call if he is not there by 20 past. If he prefers to go alone with Mr Pym's card let her know, and they will look out for him after the service to bring him back in the carriage. Wrap up well. If his cold is not better the visit can be deferred. |
