He particularly liked 'Charles I' and wants to know when 'The Corsican Brothers' begins as their mother has promised to take them to London for the first night to which he looks forward. He and his brother send a souvenir from Dunkirk which they like. He lists his birthday presents. There is a theatre there where they go every other night to see plays in French. He lists their activities and wishes Irving was swimming with them. (Postscript:) Let them know if their ivory card reached him. |

She had been hoping to hear of Irving's activities so has sent this to his house to be forwarded. She has been immersed in Sir Robert's affairs and is still detained near London. She thanks Irving for his accommodation which has been valuable to her. She feels she has a real and honourable friend. She feels more on Mr Bartlett's account than her own and takes pleasure in the sympathy she has received. She thinks of Charles I every day and looks for a safe house where she can live with her friends... She is beginning to think of 18th of next month. She was to have gone to Holly Lodge that week. She has turned the Billiard Room into a dining room... |

Incomplete and without signature. The Baroness's brother Sir Robert Burdett died on 5th June. Her engagement to William Ashmead Bartlett became known on 4th July. The letter might imply Irving lent his flat. The 18th September was to be the first night of 'The Corsican Brothers'. |
