Did not come round on Monday and writes to say how much he admired Irving's performance. It was excellent and praised on all sides. How beautiful the scenery and perfect stage management. He was struck with the excellence of Iago and detected his old friend Grifs[?] disguised as a senator. |

Irving thanks him for forwarding an anonymous postcard regarding the rehearsal the previous Sunday. He needs hardly say that there was no penalty attached to non-attendance at rehearsal which was a necessary effort for the production of 'Othello' on Monday night. All those employed received a night's pay. Irving cannot guess at the motive of the anonymous writer but supposes that the senders of anonymous letters have motives as well as a morale of their own into which it is as well not to enter. |
