He is impudent in asking for another meeting after failing to keep an engagement. Only force majeure prevented him as he dare not leave H.M. [Herman Merivale?] in an excited state of mind - he is so easily overset by troubles. He wants to see Irving, perhaps one afternoon, and 'Macbeth' again before Saturday 29th when he has tickets. He wants to write a descriptive paper that can be placed somewhere. He fears Irving has no room for Stewart Dawson, an excellent fellow. Pollock's wife is much better and 10 years younger. He never forgets that Irving made their marriage by talking to his father about it. |

Thanks for her letter. He hopes they will meet soon but fears she will be away in August. He had to get away from London to work, which he will accomplish there for a week except for a few hours in London on Saturday. He gives Nell's [Ellen Terry's] address in Germany, saying she would like to hear from Mrs Lewis. She is finding it a little hard but has Edie with her, to whom she is devoted. (Postscript:) : Tell her husband he is very sorry about S.P. who has put his foot in it. |

S.P. is likely to be Charles Stewart Parnell in whose case George Lewis was concerned, rather than Serafino Polizzioni, whom he had defended a good many years before. |

He had left for Berlin but hears Irving has called at Cromwell Road. The picture is in Berlin to be photogravured and the Queen wished it shown to the Kaiser, and then it will be displayed there. Then it will be exhibited at Waterloo House in Cockspur Street where the large gallery will house a loan collection of his pictures. Will Irving visit the galleries and advise on their decoration? Will Irving come to the private view on the last day of the month? 100,000 circulars will be sent out. Will Irving put in a good word as this is his great chance? Please make the same request to Miss Terry. |

Stoker has told him Gladstone wishes to see 'Ravenswood' when he is free. His own stage box, shut to the rest of the house, is free every night except the next Saturday. It has a stage entrance so Gladstone could sit in a corner behind the proscenium arch which would be quite comfortable. Perhaps his friends could occupy the box if he chose the other place. |
